RANDOM PROSE

This is some random, short prose that I wrote. It's pretty simple, but I tried to spruce it up a little.

With his head in his hands, with the weight sitting atop his shoulders, his breathing is ragged and uneven. He sits with his elbows propped on his knees, sitting on the edge of the bed. Lexi had never seen him like this. Eyes puffy and tired, an empty, lifeless expression in his eyes, his hair in several different directions... this was not the Matthew she knew.

"How does someone just give up like that?" He asks, his voice cracking.

"She left, Matthew. You've got to stop wallowing," Lexi tells him gently, taking a seat next to him.

He had been so infinite when they were together. On the balmy, crisp days of the spring they met, they slowly realized the new predicament that had arisen. With their hands entwined, they were astounded by this new love. But, sweltering days of summer brought subtle changes to their relationship, and before they even knew it, they were falling apart, holding on by just their fingers.

Matthew remembered those days when he had tried so hard to keep the grasp for a little longer. He had tried, and she had given up. Now his heart was hanging by threads.
